Description
Description: a group of men on horseback sing a song together; the tune is the heroic theme from the main title sequence; this song is also known as "Uncle Joe," "If I Were as Young as I Used to Be," "When I Was Young, " or "Hi, Hipperty, Hopperty, Do" - the lyrics they sing are "Hi rickety hoop ti do, How I love to sing to you, For I could sing and dance with glee, For I'm as young as I used to be." [The lyrics exist in many variants, including the version printed in Edna Ferber's novel, Cimarron] [the version that the men sing in the movie is not the same as the printed version of the tune; it appears that Steiner is imitating the version sung in the film more than any printed version of the tune; the two tunes begin differently, becoming similar only with the ascending fifth DO SOL]
